Six Years of Derive: A Journey Rooted in Growth

Six Years of Derive: A Journey Rooted in Growth

Today marks
6 years of Derive - and I’ve found myself reflecting on just how much has changed since those early days of creating at my workbench with a dream and a whole lot of determination.

Six years ago, Derive began with an idea: to create meaningful pieces inspired by the beauty of the natural world and the stories we carry with us.

What started as a creative spark at the workbench has grown into something so much bigger than I could have imagined.

Over the past six years, Derive has evolved from handmade beginnings and late nights of creating, packing, photographing, and learning as I went… into a brand carried by retailers across the country, worn by women around the world, and shaped by an incredible community that has supported this journey.

There have been seasons of steady growth.
Seasons of uncertainty.
Moments where I’ve questioned what was next.
And moments where I’ve felt completely in awe that this little dream became something real.

If you’ve been here for any part of this journey - thank you.

Derive has always been about more than jewelry.

It’s about connection.
To nature.
To adventure.
To memory.
To the pieces we choose to wear as reminders of who we are and where we’ve been.

“Born from the earth, inspired by the journey” has always been more than a tagline - it’s been the heart of everything I create.

Where We Started

In the beginning, Derive was simply me creating by hand, following instinct, learning through trial and error, and pouring my heart into every single order.

There was no big roadmap - just a deep love for design, texture, storytelling, and creating something meaningful.

Every product launch, every market, each new wholesale account, every customer order - it all felt monumental.

And… It still does.

Where We Are Today

Today, Derive is in a season of evolution.

In the beginning, growth felt tied to hustle. More collections, more launches, more pop-up markets, more momentum, always pushing toward what felt like “next.”

But life has a beautiful way of reshaping your perspective.

Motherhood has changed me in the best ways. It’s made me more intentional with my time, my energy, and what I choose to create.

And with that, Derive is evolving too.

Instead of chasing constant growth for growth’s sake, I’m leaning into something that feels far more aligned: refined, more intentional collections, meaningful one-of-a-kind pieces, and designs that feel collected, personal, and lasting.

I continue to partner with amazing retailers worldwide and have hired additional help to support me in that area of the business, along with the decision to have pop-up events fewer and farther between to make space for growth in other areas. Time to focus on refining our aesthetic, and continuing to build a brand that feels so much more aligned with the world I’ve always wanted Derive to embody: ocean, earth, sky, and the spirit of everyday wandering. Taking time to learn new skills: creating one-of-a-kind Derive exclusive designs to be cast in solid gold for timeless heirlooms.

Building this business while navigating motherhood, family life, and all the beautiful chaos that comes with it - has shifted how I define success, growth, and balance.

And maybe that’s part of the magic too.

Because Derive has grown alongside me.

Where We’re Headed

Year six feels like a turning point with new beginnings.

The vision ahead feels clearer than ever.

More intentional collections.
Elevated heirloom-worthy pieces.
A deeper connection to storytelling.
Expansion into solid gold designs and meaningful keepsakes.
Continuing to refine our core lifestyle-driven pieces that you know and love and that reflect the spirit of Derive.

The goal has never been to create more for the sake of more.

It’s to create pieces that feel lasting.
Collected.
Personal.
Like treasures discovered along the journey.

A Thank You

If you’ve shopped with us, gifted a piece, worn Derive on adventures big or small, supported a launch, shared our work, or simply followed along - thank you.

Small businesses are built one customer, one order, one share, one encouraging message at a time.

Six years in, I still don’t take any of that for granted.

You’ve helped shape these six years in more ways than you know.

And I’m so excited for what’s ahead.

With gratitude,
Erica
